4 Sounds You Never Want to Hear From Your AC Unit

Noises are your AC unit’s way of telling you that it needs to be repaired. If you hear the following sounds coming from the AC system in your Jupiter, Florida, home, you should contact an HVAC technician right away.

Screaming and Screeching

Screeching and screaming noises are never a good thing when they come from your unit. Screeching is often a sign that there is high pressure occurring in your system as the result of a faulty compressor. Ignoring this can lead to a refrigerant leak or other component failures, resulting in a major or dangerous problem. Shut your system off and contact your HVAC company.

Banging

Banging sounds coming from your AC system can be the result of many problems. It’s often a sign that a component has come loose in the system or that one of the blades of the fan has become bent. It could also be a result of an obstruction in the indoor or outdoor components.

Clicking

It’s common to hear clicking noises when your system starts up or shuts down, but if you hear consistent clicking, then it’s a sign that repairs are needed. Typically, clicking means that you have a defect in your electrical components and the system keeps trying to start up. It’s best to shut the system down until it’s repaired. Electrical problems can become dangerous if left unaddressed.

Hissing

If you hear hissing and bubbling, it’s often a sign that your system has a refrigerant leak. Your system will be supplied with enough refrigerant to last its lifetime, but a leak can mean your system will not have enough to continue functioning properly. Refrigerant leaks not only affect the function of your system but can also be dangerous for the environment.

If you hear any of the sounds listed above, contact Stephen K. Denny, Inc. at (561) 743-9554 today. One of our HVAC technicians will diagnose your problem and get your system back up and running.
